Cloyd Benjamin, Jr. is a longtime attorney, former prosecutor, public defender, law enforcement professional, and community servant running for Ward 1 City Court Judge.

Legal and public service experience

Benjamin’s experience spans private practice, prosecution, public defense, and law enforcement. His career includes service as retired First Assistant District Attorney in Natchitoches Parish, Benjamin Law Firm, LLC, Public Defender in Natchitoches and Red River Parishes, former Shreveport City Prosecutor, and work with Piper and Associates Law Firm.

He also served with the United States Department of Justice Bureau of Prisons and the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Department.

Background and Family

Natchitoches native

Cloyd Benjamin, Jr. was born in his grandmother's home on his grandparents' farm south of Campti, Louisiana. His parents, Cloyd Benjamin, Sr. and Thelma Johnson Benjamin, were hard-working people who helped shape his foundation of service and responsibility.

Cloyd Benjamin, Sr. worked at Natchitoches Parish Hospital for 40 years as Director of Housekeeping. His mother, Thelma Benjamin, was a seamstress and homemaker. Cloyd, Jr. grew up with his sisters, Kathy and Lynette, and his brother, Marcus, on “The Square” in the Jackson Square community of Natchitoches.

Education and Early Service

Benjamin attended NSU Laboratory School and Natchitoches Central High School. He later attended Northwestern State University while working as a deputy with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Department.
